Redesigning Lomi for an Intuitive, User-Friendly Experience
This project focused on improving the interactivity and accessibility of Lomi, a countertop composter designed to transform food waste into soil in hours. Targeted at environmentalists and minimalists, the goal was to enhance usability by rethinking key features like the mode-switching mechanism. Research emphasized aligning the redesign with user needs and feedback, ensuring Lomi remains intuitive and easy to use.
Turning Insights into Hunan-Centered Design
I began with sketches and wireframes, using focus groups to identify areas for improvement. Through iterative testing, I explored new interaction methods, refining each feature to ensure the product met user needs. I shifted from the “press-and-hold” mode-switching to a more intuitive dial, maintaining Lomi’s signature push-to-start functionality. Regular feedback helped refine these updates, ensuring alignment with both business goals and environmentalist values.
Seamless, Sustainable, and User-Approved
The final design introduced a streamlined, user-friendly interface that resonated well with both the client and focus groups. The new mode-switching dial and enhanced UI made Lomi easier to use, and the organic color palette and rounded fonts reinforced its eco-friendly appeal. If revisiting this project, I’d explore incorporating a touchscreen and gathering additional focus group feedback to further elevate user satisfaction.
